Faculty representative, Mrs. Cunningham, expressed thanks for a good year.
Representative from Development Office, Mrs. Roche, said Gala was a success and
they are looking at Liberty Place for next year's event. May 20 is LCHS Night at
the Barnstormers for students, alumni and friends. LCHS students to perform National
Anthem. Mrs. Roche will look into Barnstormer concession stand program as a fundraiser.
This program requires at least 40 volunteers over 18 years of age and donates 15%
of concession proceeds to the school.
Prom and post-prom were both very successful events. Next year prom is on a Friday
and disc jockey from this year's prom has already been re-booked.
No new Carnival news.
PTO executive committee needs candidates for vice-president and secretary. Also
need new parish representatives. Volunteers should contact the school. Unanimous
nominations for Mrs. Lawrence as president and Mrs. Johnson as treasurer for next
PTO board; Mrs. Scaccia has volunteered to step in for Mrs. Lawrence as needed.
2005-06 PTO budget right now is similar to current year's budget.
Next meeting,
September 13, 2005 in the school library.
In attendance: Deb Johnson, Donna Cunningham, Kim Roche, Chris Kirchner, Anna Marie
Sohonyay, Jeannette List, Carol Culliton-Metzger, Mary Scaccia
Meeting opened with a prayer led by Mrs. Johnson. Special prayer for Mrs. Lawrence,
PTO president.
Motion by Mrs. Johnson, treasurer, to amend March PTO minutes to reflect that 'half'
of LCHS families send dues to PTO, not 'one-third' as stated in March minutes. Change
noted and minutes accepted.
Treasurer's Report was circulated with ending balance of $1447.15 as of April 12.
Mrs. Johnson noted a donation to Career Day for balloons and provisions for participants.
Increase of dues to $15 for next year confirmed; with full family participation,
this increase would give PTO an operating budget of approximately $5000 and allow
for increased ability to respond to student/faculty needs and the increasing costs
involved in current interests. No update on post-prom.
Mrs. Scaccia volunteered to help Mrs. Johnson with regards to nominations for next
year's PTO Board. Mrs. Roche to provide names from new families also.
From the faculty, Mrs. Cunningham reports that Career Day was 'phenomenal' with
over 100 representatives from businesses this year. Mrs. Cunningham also issued
an invitation to the PTO from the TAD representatives for the Bobby Petrocelli presentation
April 19.
In Development, Mrs. Roche reported that the Rocky Bleier event was
a sold-out success with the auction alone raising $4500.
Spring Fling Gala scheduled for April 22 at the Eden Resort is black-tie optional,
dinner/dance event and will be recognizing distinguished alumni, Mary Anne Aichele,
Jeanne Donley, Richard Ressel and Lawrence Stengel.
Lancaster Catholic High School Night at the Lancaster Barnstormers is May 20 with
special invitations to current seniors. Tickets available in Development Office.
Development Office is in need of a secretary to start at the end of May.
Mr. Garrett is in Lourdes for two weeks with current and former students.
In attendance: Rosey Lawrence, Donna Cunningham, Kim Roche, Carol
Stephan, Carol Culliton-Metzger, Pat Kirchner, Mary Jane Lehman, Linda Garbarino,
Deb Johnson, Chris Kirchner, and Dermott Garrett, Principal
Meeting was opened with a prayer.
Meeting with Mr. Discavage about class selections for next year was
rescheduled to March 17 in the cafeteria. Postcard reminders to be mailed to homes
regarding this meeting.
Minutes from January 11 meeting were motioned for acceptance and
seconded.
Mrs. Johnson gave copies of the Treasurer’s Report noting that approximately
$700 still owed toward Safe Homes publication, as well as other monies needed for
Career Day and balance payment of Faculty Dinner. No new funds expected from usual
sources. Currently, only about one-third of families send dues to PTO. Mrs. Lawrence
suggested modifying the current PTO letter that is sent with registration packet
to stress PTO functions especially the Safe Homes / Family Directory. Other suggestions
include increasing the dues, charging for the directory or having a fee to be included
in the directory. General consensus seemed to be a re-working of the membership letter and perhaps an increase in dues. New letter should be sent to development
by mid-April for inclusion in packets for May mailing.
PTO to explore selling LCHS merchandise as a fundraiser. Suggestions
for items include umbrellas, key chains, scarves, T-shirts. This would be a major
project and potentially labor intensive and it was suggested to start with one item
that would be easy to stock and to have a link to the merchandise on the school
website.
Mr. Garrett noted the trend toward adopting proper nutritional guidelines
within the school building with ‘sensible’ choices rather than sodas, candies, etc.
Mrs. Cunningham thanked PTO for sponsoring the Faculty Dinner and
several notes of thanks from staff members were circulated this evening. Also a
thank-you note from TAD was read by Mrs. Lawrence for the PTO donation for guest
speaker, Bobby Petrocelli.
Mrs. Roche of Development Office referred to the March 22 evening
with Rocky Bleier at the Eden Resort and the Big Gala evening on April 22, also
at the Eden, featuring music, silent auction and four alumni citation awards. Development
also noted $830,000 in donations. Size of freshmen class for next year looks promising.
Also, twenty-five new students have come to LCHS since the beginning of this year.
Principal Garrett noted the need for advertising since parochial feeder schools
are losing enrollment and LCHS can not afford to have this effect ‘trickle down’
to high school level. Mr. Garrett is very optimistic about the school’s future and
is looking for ‘multi-certified educators.’
Magazine drive earned $40,000 and Mrs. Lawrence noted eight PTO volunteers
who helped with returns.
Career Day will be April 5. Mrs. Culliston-Metzger states this event
has over 100 business representatives this year. Still the need for volunteers for
set-up and clean-up.
The Rainbow Dinner Theatre donated proceeds from their February 25
performance to the post prom ($3400). PTO had previously given $200 donation toward
Basket Bingo.
Open House was well-attended and successful.
Opening for secretary on PTO board as well as parish representatives.
Mrs. Garbarino mentioned poor communication
between school and parents and it was suggested that PTO minutes and activities be posted on the school website.
Parents are urged to check the school calendar and to contact the school if they
have any questions about listed events.
Meeting was closed with a prayer.
