ENDOWED AND NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS AND FUNDS The following is a complete list of the funds and scholarships established by donors to benefit the high school and our students. Most of the funds described below are endowed and will grow in perpetuity, thus continuing to make a difference for as long as Lancaster Catholic High School exists. We are deeply grateful for the generosity that these funds represent. Additional gifts can be made to any of the endowed funds by contacting the Director of Development at (717) 509-0313.

The J. Andrew Breslin ’89 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1993. Each year, separate awards are presented to a graduating senior who 1) demonstrates academic excellence in Mathematics, 2) demonstrates excellence in Physics, 3) has served the school through music and 4) has had a positive impact in the lives of others through friendship, understanding and humor. In addition, an award is presented annually to the rising senior who excels in Math, Physics and Music.

The Lanco Softball Umpires Association established the Pete Carr Memorial Scholarship to assist a graduating senior who played softball and/or basketball and who maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average.

The Anthony DiPaolo Scholarship Fund honors this long-time teacher and coach. Tony DiPaolo is the all time winningest football coach in LCHS history, leading the Crusaders to an overall record of 156-97-6 (61.4% winning percentage) during his two stints as LCHS coach, from 1965-1980 and 1993-2001. The Fund provides a scholarship for college to a graduating senior who has played four years of football at Catholic High and who has excelled academically as well as athletically.

Every third year, a scholarship is awarded through the Frank J. Everts Scholarship Fund to a student who attended St. Mary’s Catholic School prior to enrolling at LCHS who will pursue a degree in nursing.

The Colonel Joseph Flick Memorial Scholarship is presented to a business student who has demonstrated a spirit of leadership and scholastic aptitude.

Established in 2001, the Carl A. Fuss Tuition Supplement Fund is a memorial conceived by Mrs. Noreen Fuss to honor her husband, a 1956 graduate of Catholic High. This endowed fund aids students who require financial assistance to afford tuition.

The Anthony J. Haefner ’88 Memorial Scholarship Fund provides an annual monetary award to a graduating senior entering college to study environmental protection and/or animal rights. In addition, the Anthony J. “Tony” Haefner (Class of 1988) Memorial Tuition Assistance Fund was established in 2000. The fund provides tuition assistance for students in any grade whose families would find the cost of tuition to be burdensome and without such assistance would not otherwise be able to attend the school. Both Funds are endowed with the FOCUS program of the Diocese of Harrisburg.

Scholarships for college study are presented to a graduating senior from Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish through the Hecker-Gerhardt Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1986.

The J. Donald Herzog, Jr. Graduation Memorial Fund is awarded to a graduate entering the field of dentistry or dental hygiene.

In the spring of 2002, the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae, Pennsylvania Chapter, Lancaster Circle, Scholarship Fund was established through the FOCUS foundation to provide, in perpetuity, tuition assistance to students in good academic standing who would otherwise be unable to attend the school because of a lack of financial resources.

The Michael A. Jones ’93 Memorial Scholarship Fund provides an annual monetary award to a graduating senior from Lancaster Catholic High School whose character exemplifies the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The student must major in Animal Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Pre-Veterinary or Pre-Medical Sciences at a four year college or university.

The Mildred R. Kaetz Scholarship Fund was established through a bequest from Ms. Kaetz and underwrites financial assistance for deserving students at Lancaster Catholic High School.

Each year the August A. Krimmel, Jr. Memorial Fund provides support for a graduate who continues his/her education at a Catholic College.

In order to provide current and future generations with the same opportunity to attend Lancaster Catholic High School that they enjoyed, members of the Class of 1955 have created an endowed fund for tuition assistance. The LCHS Class of 1955 Scholarship Fund was created in honor of the 45th Anniversary of their graduation.

The Lancaster Catholic High School Endowment Fund is composed of four parts. Earnings from the Memorial Scholarship Fund provide financial aid through tuition assistance to worthy students and their families while the Library Fund provides revenue for special needs of the school library. Monies derived from the Teacher Fund support special programs for the educational advancement of the teachers of LCHS. The General Endowment Fund underwrites the general operating budget of the high school.

The Carlo Long Award is presented to an individual who is creative, possesses a keen sense of humor, is a skilled athlete, a talented musician, and who epitomizes the definition of a friend.

In 2001, the Cathy Lowe Memorial Tuition Assistance Fund was established to honor her life and memory by providing financial assistance to the neediest of students. In addition, her parents set up the Cathy Lowe Memorial Scholarship Award which is presented to a graduating senior who exhibits the qualities and characteristics that made Cathy such an exceptional person.

Honoring a dedicated LCHS Math teacher and 1970 graduate, the Rose Marie Strosser Lucks Memorial Fund provides tuition assistance for deserving students. In addition, this endowed fund, which was established in 2001, underwrites a special award given to a graduating senior who is selected by the Math Department faculty.

The Carlo and Theresa Maio Memorial Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to qualified students who attend Lancaster Catholic High School. This endowed FOCUS Fund was established in 2000.

The Michael Mascuch Scholarship Fund was endowed to provide tuition assistance for students in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need who otherwise would be unable to attend Lancaster Catholic High School.

In 2004, the Edward W. McCaskey ’37 Fund was established by the members of the McCaskey family to honor the memory of this extraordinary alumnus who achieved acclaim in the fields of music and business before assuming control of the NFL’s Chicago Bears. This FOCUS fund provides revenue which is used to provide tuition assistance to deserving students.

Income from the Elsie Wilson Mellon Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual awards to deserving students who require financial assistance.

Parishioners established the Mary, Mother of the Church, Marietta, PA Scholarship Fund to provide annual tuition assistance to an incoming freshman student from that parish.

A gift to memorialize Cesare and Adelina Taglieri, Philip F. Taglieri, and Robert J. and Elizabeth A. Ackerman was used to establish The PACER Scholarship Fund in Memory of the Taglieri and Ackerman Families. This FOCUS fund will support with tuition assistance a student (or students) in at least 10th grade who is working to his/her ability, is giving of him/herself to the school or parish through God-given talents and who has demonstrated financial need.

In 1999, the James J. Rottmund (Class of 1949) Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to provide tuition assistance for students in good academic standing in any grade who attend Lancaster Catholic High School. The Fund is part of the FOCUS endowment at the Diocese of Harrisburg.

The W. Roger Simpson ’34 Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the exemplary life of this graduate (and parent of 4 LCHS alumni) who served several terms on the board of directors and volunteered his legal expertise. This endowed scholarship benefits students, like Mr. Simpson, who have a great desire for a Catholic education, but limited funds to obtain it.

The Steele-Krall Tuition Assistance Fund was established in 2003 to provide tuition assistance to students attending Lancaster Catholic High School. The fund was established in memory of Florence Steele and the Krall family. Florence was a loyal friend of Catholic High, and the Krall family has been associated with the school since the earliest days of our history.

Catholic High lost a gifted teacher and friend when Mrs. Szczepanski was tragically taken from us during the 2003-04 academic year. She truly loved this school and in her memory, the Lois Szczepanski Memorial Scholarship is given annually to a deserving student who would otherwise be financially unable to attend Lancaster Catholic High School.

Financial assistance is given through The Joseph Wacker Family Scholarship Fund to a graduating senior in need who attends a parish in the City of Lancaster and who has shown industry, loyalty, scholastic ability and strength of character. The scholarship is awarded every fourth year so that the recipient receives the award throughout his/her college career.
